Introduction

What is Waves Tune doing? This article will not cover how to use Waves Tune, but to determine what glitches Waves Tune adds to tones, when the user adjusts the knobs.

In a previous test, a glitch was observed at the beginning of the 430Hz tone tuned to B♭.

The (factory default) settings are:

  • Speed : 15ms
  • Transition : 120ms
  • Correction : 100%

When the tone was rendered losslessly to .aif, there was no sudden change observed in the waveform, at the beginning of the tone. The downward curve at the beginning of the tone in Waves Tune does not appear to be a real glitch.

While there was no glitch at the beginning of the tuned tone, observe the last couple of waves: Waves Tune introduced a glitch!

Conclusions

  • The leading curl of a tuned tone in Waves Tune may not be a real glitch, however alarming it looks.
  • Waves Tune may introduce a glitch at the end of the tuned tone, but it may not be apparent in Waves Tune.
  • Knowing where the possible glitches are may permit looking out for them, even in cases where they are not obvious.
